Altar Guild (Director, Ann Harkins)
The Altar Guild is an essential part of every church service. Members clean the sanctuary weekly and take turns preparing the altar for Eucharist and special services, including weddings and funerals.
Altar Guild training teaches members the names, uses, and care of the vessels and linens used in worship and are trained by the director.
This ministry is reverent, joyful, and deeply rewarding. Altar Guild Director Ann Harkins encourages all members to learn more about the ministry and serve if they feel called.
Lay Leaders (Coordinator Jackie Gaston)
Licensed Lay Readers: Authorized to lead public worship, officiate at certain non-Eucharistic services, and perform pastoral duties under clerical direction.
Eucharistic Ministers (Coordinator Jackie Gaston)
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs): Often grouped with lay readers, these individuals are licensed to administer the consecrated bread and wine at communion
Certified by the Diocese, Eucharistic Ministers assist clergy during Communion services and may bring Blessed Communion to shut-ins and members unable to attend church. Advance arrangements are required so the communion elements can be blessed.
Lay Readers (Coordinator Howard Tagg)
In the Episcopal Church, Lay Readers (or Lectors) are appointed volunteers who read Holy Scripture (Lessons and Psalms) and lead the Prayers of the People during worship
Acolytes (Coordinator Jamie Knauss)
An acolyte in the Episcopal Church is a lay liturgical minister who assists clergy during worship services. Their duties include leading processions carrying the cross or candles, holding the Gospel book, and assisting the priest in preparing the altar for Holy Communion. Acolyte ministries are generally open to both youth (often starting around 4th grade or 8 years old) and adults.
Ushers (Coordinator Debbie Stubbs)
Parishioners who help direct visitors to the church and welcome all who enter the church. They take the communion elements to the Altar before the offertory and collect the offerings each Sunday.
Greeters (ECW) (Coordinator Debbie Stubbs)
Parishioners provide a cheerful and welcoming invitation to all who enter the church to come and worship with us.
Episcopal Church Women (ECW) (President Debbie Stubbs)
Meetings are on the 1st Sunday of the month at 11:15 am (church library)
The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is a ministry and fellowship group for all women in the Episcopal Church. Since 1871, ECW has supported Christian service, community building, advocacy, fundraising, and spiritual growth. Women of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences are encouraged to share their gifts and serve where they feel called. The women of St. Luke’s Church meet on the first Sunday of every month following the worship service, 11:15 am.
Sunshine Ministry (ECW) Coordinator Theresa Crawford)
This committee sends birthday, anniversary, and get-well cards to parishioners. Visitors also receive a card thanking them for worshiping with St. Luke’s Church.
Martha’s Guild (ECW) (Coordinator Debbie Stubbs)
This committee provides hospitality for Sunday refreshments and all special receptions.
Mercy Manna Ministry (ECW) (Coordinator Jackie Gaston)
Mercy Manna provides meals for church members recovering from surgery or illness. Jackie Gaston coordinates the meals and families who need them.
Women’s Bible Study (Leader Theresa Crawford)
They meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 am (church library) (September through May)
The Women’s Bible Study and provides engaging, refreshing materials. Topics range from women of the Bible to books of the Bible and more. The group meets Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. from September through May, and everyone is welcome to join this delightful group as they study the Bible and its stories. They breakthrough the summer.
REBOOT Recovery (Leader Chuck Boyd)
Chuck Boyd is a local trauma recovery leader and peer-facilitator for REBOOT Recovery in the Lindale and East Texas area. He leads the faith-based, 12-week Trauma REBOOT courses at The Journey Center and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and also offers private coaching through Boyd Transformation Coaching Services
Dinner Club (Coordinator Debbie Stubbs)
St. Luke’s Church members take turns hosting a monthly dinner for all parishioners. These gatherings offer a relaxed, casual opportunity for fellowship, conversation, and enjoying one another’s company. Times and locations are announced in the weekly newsletter.
Ladies Lunch Out (ECW) (Coordinator Debbie Stubbs)
The women of St. Luke’s Church choose a different restaurant each month to have lunch and enjoy fellowship. Times and places are announced in the weekly newsletter.
Game Days Thursdays 10:00-12:00 noon (Coordinator Debbie Stubbs)
Game Days offer weekly friendly competition with forty-two, dominoes, cards, Mahjong, Uno, Chicken Foot, and more. Open to the community, these gatherings are a fun way to play games and get to know our neighbors.
